I spent the last weeks getting one of the 8 gears I bought at eBay working. But I failed., what a waste of money. Not only are they built from the hard material, the whole is not centred and also the size does not match. The tape stops to wind and the running capstan causes tape jam. So I am back in production of my own gears. The resin I used before, the Anycubic Plant Based Resin, was quite crisp and it happen that one or more teeth brake. In addition a lot of post-processing was necessary to get it working. I decided to get a new, more accurate printer and I decided to get the Anycubic Photon D2 with the new DLP technology. Had quite good experience with Anycubic in history, so I give it a try. Unquestionable it is more expensive but the results are absolutely astonishing.
It is way faster, absolutely silent and the results are so amazing that I can use the gears almost right out of the printer. Gears printed with Tough Resin are much stronger than with the Plant Based Resin. The tape mechanism is working very well with these new gears. Have a look by yourself!
However, I also ordered flexible resin to mix it with Anycubics Tough Resin just to give it a try to reduce the noise. Means, more experiments will follow…
