Unit 3 – A first analysis

Now it is time to start to analyse unit #3. It is always a good idea to have a look at possible issues before disassembling everything. The first aid section gives you some hints what can be the problem.

Unit #3 shows the same issue as unit #1 – the LCD of the tape deck has all the segments enabled and the lid of the cassette player does not open. This basically means that the tape deck CPU is for whatever reason frozen. It does not have to be toasted as unit #1 has shown, although in unit #2 it was. The specific reason why it than worked in unit #1 was not clear for me when I repaired it. But with this fact in mind I can get more knowledge of how the CPU and its firmware is working.

The power led is active and there is no sign that any voltage would be broken on the power supply panel. The radio and amplifier are working. The CD Player is not able to read the TOC. Of course the keys Play, Stop & Pause of the CD Player ar not working since they are controlled by the non working tape deck CPU.

All in all, it seems to become easy to repair, nothing complicated. However, in my videos I am going to explain a little bit more what was broken in unit #2 since this was a real challenge and I learned a lot of the sound machine which I would like share to make someone else’s life easier. Enjoy the new video.
